Activities:

No space-themed birthday party is complete without a lineup of activities and games that will keep young astronauts entertained for hours. Here are some fun ideas to consider:

astronaut themed birthday party activities and decoration

  • Build Your Own Rocket: Let them be creative engineers by providing materials such as cardboard tubes, paper plates, and colorful markers for kids to design and decorate their own rocket ships. Once assembled, they can embark on a mission to explore distant planets in the backyard.

  • Galactic Treasure Hunt: Send little explorers on a mission to discover hidden treasures scattered throughout the party space. Provide them with treasure maps or clues written in alien language (simple codes or symbols) to decipher along the way.

  • Zero-Gravity Dance Party: Turn up the tunes and let kids boogie down on the dance floor as they imagine floating through space in zero gravity. Encourage them to come dressed with their own spacesuits.

  • Coloring Poster: We found the perfect poster on amazon. Set up crayons, markers, and colored pencils. Have the children color the poster and hang it up as the backdrop.

  • Shooting Stars Bean Bags: Glue some felt stars onto bean bags. Cut 5 large round holes on a poster. Mark each hole with a point amount such as 10, 20, 50, 100, and 200. Each child gets a turn to throw the bean bags into the holes. The child with the highest amount of points wins!

  • Galaxy Snow Globes: Create your own snow globe using silver and purple glitter, gold stars, and mini planet colored balls. Pour everything into a round shaped plastic container and glue it shut, it shouldn't spill.

  • Color The Rocket: Have the children decorate their own rocket! For larger parties, purchase two or more. Once the rockets are ready for blast-off, the children can pretend play inside and have their party 'space'!

Creating Your Own Space Suit:

Materials Needed:

  1. White or Silver Clothing: Start with a base layer of white or silver clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt and pants or leggings. This will serve as the foundation for the space suit.

  2. Aluminum Foil: Aluminum foil will be used to add a metallic sheen to the space suit. Cut the foil into large squares or strips that can be easily wrapped around different parts of the clothing.

  3. Cardboard: Cardboard will be used to create various components of the space suit, such as a helmet, chest plate, and backpack. Ensure that the cardboard is sturdy enough to hold its shape once cut and assembled.

  4. Silver or Metallic Paint: Silver or metallic paint can be used to add finishing touches to the cardboard, giving them a realistic space suit appearance.

  5. Silver Duct Tape: Silver duct tape can be used to secure the aluminum foil to the clothing and reinforce the cardboard components of the space suit.

  6. Clear Plastic Visor: A clear plastic visor or face shield will serve as the helmet visor, allowing children to see out while adding to the authenticity of the space suit.

  7. Craft Supplies: Additional craft supplies such as scissors, glue, markers, and stickers can be used to decorate the space suit and add personal touches.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

1. Prepare the Base Clothing:

  • Have the child put on the white or silver clothing to serve as the base layer of the space suit.

2. Wrap with Aluminum Foil:

  • Carefully wrap strips or squares of aluminum foil around different parts of the clothing, such as the arms, legs, torso, and shoulders. Ensure that the foil is secured firmly but not too tightly, allowing for movement.

3. Create Cardboard Components:

  • Use cardboard to create various components of the space suit, such as a helmet, chest plate, and backpack. Cut out shapes for each component and assemble them using glue or tape.

4. Paint and Decorate:

  • Once the cardboard components are assembled, use silver or metallic paint to coat them, giving them a realistic space suit appearance. Allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding.

  • Children can also use markers, stickers, and other craft supplies to decorate their space suit and add personal touches, such as NASA patches or mission badges.

5. Attach the Helmet Visor:

  • Attach the clear plastic visor or face shield to the helmet component using glue or tape, ensuring that it is securely in place but still allows for visibility.

6. Final Touches:

  • Once all components are complete and dry, carefully put on the cardboard helmet and any additional accessories, such as gloves or boots, to complete the space suit ensemble.

With a little creativity and a touch of imagination, you can host a space-themed birthday party that's truly out of this world. From rocket ship adventures to starry crafts and yummy food, every aspect of the celebration will leave kids feeling like they've journeyed to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. So, buckle up and get ready to blast off into a universe of fun!
